Neil M. Smalley, President | 1990 - Present

Neil M. Smalley is enjoying retirement after thirty-four years of dedicated civilian service with the Department of the Air Force, Wright-Patterson AFB, where he held a number of managerial positions, the last of which was Deputy Accounting and Finance Officer for the Base. He was united in marriage to Willa Jean Kantner in June of 1958. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Kettering Parks Foundation since its inception, and is an active member in the United Methodist Church of the Cross. In his spare time you might find him on the golf course or at the Dayton Masonic Center where he serves as an Officer for the 32 Degree Masons.

Jerry B. Barnett, Ph.D. | 1987 - Present

Jerry Barnett holds a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. He is a retired administrator with the Kettering City School district. Jerry was inducted into the C.A. Roush Educational Hall of Fame in 1993 and was selected as the Grand Marshall of the Kettering Holiday at Home parade in 1995. Jerry was named Kettering Volunteer Citizen of the Year in 1989 and has received numerous awards from the National Recreation and Park Association and Ohio Parks and Recreation Association. In addition to being a member of the Kettering Parks Foundation, Jerry is also a member of the Kettering Dor-Wood Optimist club (31 years). Jerry enjoys plaing volleyball and has participated in the National Senior Olympics as a player seven times. Jerry lives in Kettering with his wife Deborah and has two daughters and 5 grandchildren.

Frank Spolrich | 1984 - Present

Frank Spolrich currently serves as the Principal of St. Albert the Great school in Kettering. He recently retired from serving 39 yeards in public education with the last 37 years in the Kettering City Schools. Mr. Spolrich and his wife Nancy have 2 grown daughters and 3 grandchildren who attend the Kettering City Schools. Mr. Spolrich is a graduate of Dayton Chaminade H.S. and has a B.S. and M.Ed. in education from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.

Debbie Waker | 1995 - Present

Debbie has been a proud member of the Kettering Parks Foundation since July 1995. She was born and raised in the outstanding community of Kettering. After graduating from the University of Dayton, she has been volunteering in several schools, her parish, and especially her city.

Motivated to continually make Kettering a better place to live, Debbie has been an advocate to inform citizens their individual responsibility to keep Kettering beautiful. She knows Kettering is worth it, and will continue to dedicate her time and talent to such a wonderful city.

Denise Nelson | 2006 - Present

Denise is a 1981 graduate of Wright State University with a BA in Accounting. Upon graduation, she worked as a CPA for 6 years for a nationally recognized accounting firm, then went on to specialize in Health Care. She and her husband Greg started their own long term care business and operated several nursing homes in the area until selling their business in 2000, and have since continued consulting for other long term care providers. Denise is currently a Board of Director for Brookville Enterprises, owner of Brookhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brookville.

Denise is an active volunteer with the Kettering Schools and with her church, Christ United Methodist. She also recently served as Treasurer of the City of Kettering Tax Levy. She and her husband Greg are also kept quite busy raising their six children, of which five are graduates of the Kettering City Schools.

Charley Schuerholz | 2009 - Present

Charley is the president of Schuerholz Printing, located in Kettering, and celebrating its 35th year in 2009. He is a proud member of the Dor-wood Optimist club, Junior Achievement at Fairmont High School and serves as an Auctioneer for various charity fund raisers.

"As a board member I am proud to serve as a voice for the benefit of our residents and our services," Charley says. "My hopes are to continue the programs we have in place and to help develop new and exciting opportunities for our Kettering youth and residents of all ages." Charley was born and raised in Kettering, Ohio.

Ed Smith | 2009 - Present

Ed is a lawyer with Nolan, Sprowl & Smith and is OSBA certified in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. He also participates as an Ohio Bar Ethics Committee Member; a Dayton Rotary Club member and program chair 2005-2006; "Excellence in Teaching"Chair, Notre Dame Club of Dayton; Editorial Board, Dayton Bar Briefs; volunteer lawyer for Life Essentials and "Wills for Heroes" Program of the Dayton Bar Association; and Naturalization speaker at U.S. District Court.

As a 31-year resident of Kettering, Ed feels the Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts Department facilities provide a beautiful atmosphere and help attract residents of all ages to this wonderful city. "I look forward to contributing to the goals of the department to continue to make Kettering such a great place to live."
