The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts annual TreeFest took place again this year at Pondview Park, Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m.-noon. The annual event is focused on the importance of our local environment and to build advocacy for our community’s urban canopy. The event provides a great opportunity to educate participants on trees, but also a chance to learn from professionals on how to plant and maintain the trees they are planting. This year’s event was in partnership with another local event, TRECYCLE. TRECYCLE is a 13 mile bike ride touring through seven Kettering parks, including Pondview Park and was created to not only plant trees in combination with a bike ride, but to build advocacy for our environment. We welcome support from others to contribute financially which will defray the cost of trees planted the day of the event.
TreCycle 2019 was a tremendous success thanks to the efforts of Brent Devitt, the founder of the event, and the Kettering Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. The program raised $604 to purchase 25 trees that will be placed in our neighborhood parks around our beautiful city. The event was a 13 mile bike ride touring through seven Kettering parks, and was created not only to plant trees in combination with a bike ride, but to build advocacy for our environment. Kettering Parks are truly special to many of our residents and TreCycle was the perfect event to expose more residents to our amazing neighborhood parks. Thank You Brent for your commitment to our environment and to living a healthy lifestyle through biking. We look forward to supporting TreCycle next year.
